Project Kick-off Meeting, June 2023, University of Twente, Enschede, the Netherlands

HERCULES project kick-off meeting was held successfully at the University of Twente (the Netherlands) on June 13, 2023

The project introduces a novel breakthrough approach towards thermal energy storage of surplus renewable energy via a hybrid thermochemical/sensible heat storage with the aid of porous media made of refractory redox metal oxides and electrically powered heating elements. The proposed system will be developed and tested at a proof-of-concept scale in a relevant environment (TRL 5).

During the kick-off meeting, the partners presented 8 work packages that include technical contents, project management, and exploitation and dissemination activities. The meeting presented an opportunity for the consortium to refine the common understanding of the project, including the tasks, and roles of each partner in the project.

Project title: High-temperature Thermochemical Heat Storage Powered by Renewable Electricity for Industrial Heating Applications

Duration: 48 months (June 1, 2023 – May 31, 2027)

Topic: Efficient, sustainable and inclusive energy use (HORIZON-CL5-2022-D4-01-05)
